"The dispute with my insurer over a motor claim exclusion was frustrating. Larkpoint explained what the exclusion actually meant in law, which was different from how the insurer had applied it. They prepared the Ombudsman submission and we reached a resolution I was satisfied with."

Case Studies
Three anonymised examples of matters we have handled, shared with client agreement.
Fire Claim — Disputed Loss Assessment
Situation
A Kuala Lumpur business owner had submitted a fire insurance claim for damage to commercial premises. The insurer's appointed loss adjuster provided an assessment the client considered significantly understated, with no clear basis given for the reduction.
What We Did
We reviewed the policy, the loss adjuster's report, and the client's own documentation. We identified the applicable policy provisions the adjuster had not addressed, prepared a written response to the insurer, and supported the client through a revised assessment process.
Outcome
The insurer agreed to a revised claim settlement that was substantially higher than the initial assessment. The matter concluded within 10 weeks of our engagement without requiring Ombudsman proceedings.
"I had not realised how much difference a careful reading of the policy could make. Larkpoint identified provisions I had overlooked entirely."
Motor Claim — Exclusion Dispute
Situation
An individual policyholder's motor claim was denied on the basis of a policy exclusion relating to the use of the vehicle at the time of the accident. The client disputed the insurer's interpretation of the exclusion's scope.
What We Did
We analysed the exclusion clause against the factual circumstances and identified case law supporting a narrower interpretation. We engaged directly with the insurer's legal department and, when that did not resolve the matter, prepared a submission to the Financial Mediation Bureau.
Outcome
The Financial Mediation Bureau upheld the policyholder's position and directed the insurer to settle the claim. Total duration from our engagement to resolution was approximately five months.
"Without knowing my rights or how to present them, I would have simply accepted the denial. The Ombudsman process was less daunting than I expected with proper preparation."
Insurance Agency — FSA Licensing Review
Situation
A growing insurance agency was uncertain whether its planned expansion into new product lines would require additional licensing under the Financial Services Act 2013 and what BNM filing obligations would be triggered.
What We Did
We reviewed the agency's current licensing conditions, the product lines being considered, and the applicable BNM guidelines. We produced a written advisory setting out licensing requirements, recommended adjustments to their agent agreements, and outlined the filing steps needed.
Outcome
The agency proceeded with the expansion with a clear compliance plan in place. The advisory identified one area that would have required a separate licensing application, which the client had not previously considered.
"A well-structured, clear report that we could actually use. It saved us from a licensing issue we had not spotted ourselves."
